RELAXING MASSAGE: WHAT TO EXPECT
A Relaxing massage is a massage that focuses on relaxation. It’s a massage for relieving the body of tension using light, firm, and soothing strokes. Although, most full body massages leave you feeling relaxed, a Relaxing massage is mainly for relaxation, because it helps you relax and calms the mind .
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A RELAXING MASSAGE
If this is your first time booking a Relaxing massage and you don’t know what to except, don’t worry about it. In this article I explain what to expect before the massage starts; what happens during the massage; and what to do after the massage.
AT THE START OF THE MASSAGE SESSION
Before the massage starts, your massage therapist will have a brief conversation with you about the massage. He or she will ask, how you are feeling, and why you booked the session; so they can understand what you need from the massage. And they will also ask if you have a restful day or a busy day ahead, so that the massage isn’t too relaxing. Some massage therapists will ask about your health in relation to the massage.
After the chat, your masseuse or masseur will leave the room so you can change from your clothes. There will be clean towels, or a robe, or a cloth that you can use. You will remove your outerwear, but you can keep your innerwear on if you are more comfortable. Also it’s better to have a warm shower before a massage.
The massage therapist might have music or nature sounds playing. But if you don’t want music, you can ask for no music during the session.
You will be covered with a towel. Your massage therapist will be using oil or cream on your skin during the massage. You can bring your own oil or cream if you prefer.
DURING THE MASSAGE
During the massage, the massage therapist will use basic massage techniques and also unique techniques to help you relax. Your massage therapist will start the massage with a light long flowing movement, called effleurage. This light stroke is to introduce the therapist’s hands to your body, and also to distribute the oil or cream evenly. The massage therapist will proceed to use firmer but lights strokes such as kneading, ringing and rolling, to reduce tension and increase blood circulation. However, different massage therapists will use different massage styles and unique techniques to ease you into a state of complete relaxation.
WHAT TO DO AFTER A RELAXING MASSAGE
After the massage you don’t need to wash the oil off your skin. The body oil or cream will help to soften your skin so you can leave it on. Avoid sunbathing or saunas as they can heat the oil and burn your skin.
It’s important that you drink enough water after the massage, to drain toxins and to keep you hydrated. Also after the massage it’s better to rest, avoid heavy lifting, and take it easy for the remainder of the day.
A Relaxing massage calms the mind, and leads to a good night sleep.
