HOW TO PREPARE FOR A MASSAGE AT HOME
If you have booked a massage treatment to your home or hotel, it’s really easy to prepare and setup. In this article, I list simple steps to help you prepare for a massage at home.
1
The first thing to consider when preparing for a massage at home is comfort. Make sure your environment is comfortable for you and for your massage therapist. The room should be the right temperature, not too hot, and not cold. And also make sure you create enough space for your massage therapist to set up.

You can request for your massage therapist to bring a massage table or a mat. Usually with an extra cost the massage therapist will bring the table, along with towels, or cloths, oils and creams, everything you need for the massage. But it’s better to ask before they arrive to know what he or she will be bringing for the session. But if there isn’t an option for a massage table, or you don’t have enough space, you can use your bed or the floor.
If you are using a bed, you will need two towels, or a large cloth. Lay the towel or the cloth on the bed to prevent the massage oil from getting onto your bedsheets. And keep another towel or a cloth on the side to cover with when the massage starts.
If you prefer the massage on the floor, speak to your massage therapist if it’s comfortable for them to do the massage on the floor.
To prepare the floor for the massage, you will need a large soft cloth, like a duvet or similar, one or two towels, and two pillows; for your head and for your legs.

For music, you can select a playlist to play during the massage session. Or you can ask your massage therapist to play soothing music. But if you don’t want music, that’s okay, you can ask for no music during the session.
4
Candles. Make sure your surrounding is safe before you put your candles on. And do not leave the candles unattended.
5
You should have a shower or a bath before the massage starts. Even better before the masseuse and masseur arrives. That way you are clean and fresh for your massage.
6
Remember to use the restroom before the massage starts. So you don’t have to go in the middle of the massage session.
7
Make sure you don’t over eat before the massage. Eat little amount of food before the session, so you don’t get uncomfortable lying on your stomach during the massage. Also don’t go hungry before the massage, because your stomach might rumble throughout the session, and you can’t relax. So eat little food, or just enough.
8
Turn off your phone, or put it on silent. Except it’s absolutely important for you to keep it on.
These simple steps will help you prepare effectively for a massage at home. Remember that when preparing for a massage at home: keep it simple, keep your environment safe, focus on comfort and relaxation. And also make sure you remove all distractions that might interrupt your massage session.
